However, when BSP is mentioned, it is often used to refer to the two main types of pipe threads: the BSPP (parallel thread) and the BSPT (tapered pipe thread). BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) stands for British Standard Parallel Pipe, and it is a type of thread used in pipe connections.BSPP threads are characterised by the fact that their internal and external threads have the same tooth angle and their diameters remain the same throughout the entire length of the thread, i.e., they are parallel and don’t form a taper. This design enables BSPP threads to provide a reliable seal when connected and, due to their parallelism, are relatively easy to install and dismantle.BSPP threads are usually associated with specific pipe sizes and wall thicknesses, which are determined in accordance with British Standards or other relevant standards.
BSPP threads are used in applications where a lower pressure seal is required, such as water, gas and other domestic pipework. They are widely used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications, particularly where frequent dismantling and re-installation is required, as the parallel thread design reduces the risk of deterioration in sealing performance due to thread wear.

BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) stands for British Standard Tapered Pipe Thread and is a type of thread used for pipe connections characterised by the fact that the internal and external threads have different tooth angles and form a certain taper between them. This taper design allows BSPT threads to produce a tighter seal when connected and to withstand higher pressures.The dimensions and specifications of BSPT threads are also determined according to the British Standard or other relevant standards with respect to the diameter, pitch and taper parameters of the threads.
BSPT threads are used in applications where high pressure sealing is required, such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems, certain industrial pipework systems etc. Due to their tapered design, BSPT threads gradually generate greater sealing forces during tightening, thus ensuring a tight and reliable connection.
Compared to BSPP (parallel threads), BSPT threads provide better sealing performance, but installation and disassembly can be relatively more complicated due to the need to ensure proper alignment of the threads and appropriate tightening torque.
